Interclub Captain Responsibilites

Preparing for the Season:

  • Create a communication channel as suits e.g. Whatsapp
  • Send and communicate the interclub draw to your team
  • Book out the courts for home games, add an hour before and after scheduled play times
  • The week before the interclub meet:
  • Confirm availability of team members
  • Confirm team members and positions – communicate to the team
  • Communicate with captain of opposing team if needed (e.g. time change, forfeit, etc.)
  • Make sure you have tennis balls (two cans / 8 balls)
  • Food (if home game coordinate in advance)
  • Club rooms (if home game): bathrooms: collect key or arrange unlocking of club house, clean bathroom, clean towels, toilet paper; drinks – check beer, wine, milk and know where the key is for the cash box
  • Tennis Auckland Handbook/ Score book
  • Delegate duties if needed, assign captainship to other team member if needed and let the rest of the team know who is captain for game day

On game day (Home games):

  • Be at clubhouse 30 min before game to open up clubhouse and welcome visiting team members – or delegate this role
  • Communicate with own team about order of play and ball use
  • Communicate with other team captain about order of play and ball use
  • Fill in the score book – or delegate this role
  • Sign the other team’s score book and get their signature for our book
  • If more than one Maraetai interclub team playing at home – communicate with other team about court use, if the first team runs over time.
  • Thank other team for sportsmanship and congratulate them if they won
  • Enter scores on Tennis Match Hub – or delegate this role

On game day (Away games):

  • Communicate with own team about order of play and ball use
  • Communicate with other team captain about order of play and ball use
  • Fill in the score book – or delegate this role
  • Sign the other team’s score book and get their signature for our book
  • Thank other team for sportsmanship, hospitality and congratulate them if they won

After the Match:

  • Enter scores on Tennis Match Hub - or delegate this role.  Instructions can be found on the website
  • Report all scores to the club for publishing on website and social media
